About Michael
Michael is a partner in the firm's Halifax office who previously spent several years as senior counsel at the Canadian head office of a major international oil and gas company. He has extensive commercial and regulatory experience in energy, natural resources and environmental matters, with a particular focus on oil and gas, and has worked on projects including offshore and onshore development, mining, LNG facilities, pipelines, refineries and renewable energy. He also advises on competition law, health, safety and environment compliance, and the design of corporate compliance programs. Michael is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, and previously chaired the CBA's National Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section. He has taught oil and gas law at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University and frequently presents at energy and environmental law conferences. Michael earned his LL.B. and a certificate in marine and environmental law from Dalhousie University in 2001, and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 2002 and the Alberta bar in 2006.
