About Michael
Michael Hokanson is a formally trained mediator and arbitrator with an extensive background in alternative dispute resolution, and he uses litigation, mediation and other ADR forums to reach cost-effective outcomes for clients. His practice includes professional liability claims involving architects, engineers, and other professionals; construction litigation for design professionals, contractors and project managers; catastrophic personal injury and fatality litigation; corporate and commercial disputes; energy litigation; and administrative law defending professionals before self-governing bodies. He has represented clients across western Canada and the northern territories in large, complex multi-party litigation, and has taught and evaluated articling students in Civil Litigation for the CPLED bar admission course. Michael was designated King's Counsel in 2022 and previously served on the Law Society of Alberta's Assurance Fund Adjudications Committee and Conduct Committee, and he sits on the board of directors at Calgary Legal Guidance.
