Maureen Whelton is the Managing Partner of Whelton Hiutin LLP and practises as a commercial and civil litigator, with a practice covering commercial disputes, real estate and construction disputes, oppression remedy claims, employment law, medical malpractice, and appellate advocacy. She appears regularly before all levels of court in Ontario, as well as administrative tribunals and private arbitration panels, and has notable experience in injunction proceedings, including an appointment by the Superior Court of Justice as an independent supervising solicitor in matters involving injunctive relief. She has also been retained by fellow lawyers to act as a mediator. Her work ranges from single-day motions, appeals, and applications to multi-week trials and arbitrations, and she works with clients before litigation begins to identify practical solutions to their disputes. Whelton has a long-standing involvement in legal education, having coached the University of Toronto's Jessup Moot Team for many years and received the Arbor Award in 2018 for her contributions; she is also an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Law School and a regular contributor to continuing education programs run by the Law Society of Ontario and the Ontario Bar Association. She is an active member of the Advocates' Society and previously served as a Director on its board. Whelton holds a law degree from the University of Toronto Law School and an undergraduate degree from St. Francis Xavier University, where she graduated as valedictorian.
