About Kristin Ley

Landlords, property managers and housing providers are the only clients Kristin Ley acts for, and the work runs from lease problems to regulatory compliance and managing risk. As a partner at Cohen Highley LLP in London, Kristin leads two of the firm's teams, Multi-Residential Housing and Commercial Litigation. Kristin is a regular at the Landlord and Tenant Board and the Human Rights Tribunal, and takes clients' cases into Ontario courts at every level.

Corporate law was the original plan. Kristin was called to the Ontario bar in 2008, the year the global financial crisis hit, and that upset the plan and led to a job with Joe Hoffer, who went on to become Kristin's mentor in multi-residential housing law. By 2012 the Middlesex Law Association had given Kristin its Rising Star Award, an honour reserved for lawyers with under ten years in practice who've already stood out in the profession. Kristin's legal training includes law degrees from both the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy.

Kristin co-chairs Osgoode's yearly residential landlord-tenant program, a role taken over from Hoffer, who first brought Kristin into it, and the program makes a point of putting both the landlord and the tenant view on every topic it covers. Kristin presents often at Law Society of Ontario CPD programs and builds and leads human rights training for housing providers. Conferences for property managers and real estate investors regularly book Kristin as a speaker, too.

Kristin also explains rule changes for landlords in the trade press. Speaking to REMI Network in 2023 about new Landlord and Tenant Board forms, Kristin expected the changes to speed up processing for landlords and noted that filing the Payment Agreement Form by itself would save them preparation time. In November 2025, Kristin said Bill 60's planned staged rollout was meant to allow a settling-in period for procedural and administrative changes before some of its provisions took effect.
