About Kate

Kate is a co-managing partner of Patterson Law with more than 30 years of experience helping owner-manager clients with business structuring, tax minimization, trusts, and estate planning, including succession planning for family-owned businesses. She was a part-time professor at Dalhousie Law School for over 20 years and regularly presents to groups such as the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Kate has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada for corporate law, tax law, and trusts and estates since 2018, and was named Tax Law Lawyer of the Year in Halifax in 2019. She was appointed King's Counsel in 2016 and previously chaired the Board of Governors of Northwoodcare Incorporated. She earned her LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1988.
