About Karen

Karen Fruitman is a founding partner of Magellan Lawyers LLP, practising in real estate and corporate commercial law. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Japanese from the University of Victoria in 1993 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1997. She was called to the bar in Ontario in 1999, articled at a small firm in Hamilton, and practised personal injury insurance litigation and family law before later working as a legal researcher and writer, including for an immigration law reference manual and Halsbury's Laws of Canada. She was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2013 and has since built Magellan's business law practice with her husband, Steve Fruitman. She has served as Vice-President and Chair of the Personnel Committee for Alternatives for Youth and as President of the Meadow Montessori School Society.
