About Jody

Jody Brown is a civil litigator who focuses on class actions, working to make complex litigation understandable for his clients. He acts for plaintiffs seeking collective redress for wrongs committed by corporations and governments, and also represents unions and employees in general litigation covering employment law, insolvency, consumer protection, Charter claims, institutional abuse and professional negligence. Jody was counsel in Granger v. Ontario, one of the few class actions taken through a full common issues trial, and secured a judgment for more than 7,000 class members in the first certified class action alleging a breach of section 8 of the Charter. He has handled numerous employment class actions spanning provincial and federal standards, including certification of a case on behalf of delivery drivers alleged to have been misclassified as independent contractors, and was counsel in Rosen v. BMO, Ontario's first successfully certified misclassification employment class action. He also represents retirees whose employers sought to end their post-retirement benefits, and occasionally acts for defendants facing class action exposure. Outside the office, Jody cycles and races with Toronto cycling clubs.
