About Janice
Janice Payne has been a partner at Nelligan Law since her call to the bar in 1976, providing counsel to both employees and employers on workplace matters and appearing before administrative tribunals and the courts. She has led major employment-related class actions, including serving as representative counsel for non-unionized employee groups in the Nortel and Canwest insolvency proceedings, and represented Canada's Inuit in the Residential Schools settlement process. Payne was the firm's first female lawyer and has worked to increase women's presence there; in 2001 the Women's Law Association of Ontario honoured her for her contributions to the legal profession and community.
