About James

James (Jim) Dunphy first joined WBA Law as an articling student in 1992, became an associate in 1993 and was a partner from 2000 to 2012, before returning in 2018 as the firm's tax specialist. A Chartered Professional Accountant, he spent twelve years as a senior manager in the Audit Division of the Canada Revenue Agency before his legal career. He now practises across corporate and commercial law with an emphasis on tax-effective transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and corporate reorganizations tied to matrimonial property settlements, and advises on complex financings for businesses including farming operations. James has appeared before the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Canada, the Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Court of King's Bench of Alberta and the Provincial Court of Alberta.
