James Shields is an associate at OKT and a litigator with a focus on social justice work. Before law school he worked as a community engagement and research consultant on access to justice and legal aid reform projects, an experience that drew him toward improving access to justice for Indigenous communities. He earned his JD from Osgoode Hall Law School, where he was a Dean's Fellow and competed successfully in moot competitions, including a win at the Americas Regional Round of the Price Media Law Moot. He also worked at both of Osgoode's community legal clinics, assisting marginalized workers and clients with refugee and immigration matters. Since being called to the bar in Ontario, James has argued before courts at every level and is also called to the bar in Alberta. He holds a dual honours degree from the University of King's College and Dalhousie University.
