Benjamin Brookwell is a partner at OKT whose practice focuses on Aboriginal rights, treaty rights, and title, addressed through both litigation and negotiation. He works with First Nations and Indigenous organizations on substantive equality and protection from discrimination in the delivery of services such as health care, and has written and spoken on systemic racism facing Indigenous peoples in that system. Ben advises First Nations on building the internal capacity to improve citizens' quality of life and health outcomes, and has helped prepare claims for the Specific Claims Commission. He has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Divisional Court, the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal. He served as co-counsel in Canada's first trial on Aboriginal title to water, a two-year case involving more than fifty witnesses, where he led evidence on Indigenous customs and traditions. He is a member of the Ontario Bar.
