About James
James Gogan is a board member and partner in McInnes Cooper's Sydney office, with a corporate and business practice focused on energy and natural resources projects. He has represented private and public corporations on reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, amalgamations, financing and tax matters, and serves as external general counsel to a number of corporate clients. Jim also advises Indigenous communities on complex commercial projects, including negotiations, agreements and financing, and has acted on transactions such as Mi'kmaw communities' acquisition of an interest in Clearwater Seafoods. His energy law practice grew out of continuing work for clients in Nova Scotia's offshore exploration sector, including the development of the province's offshore royalty regime. He holds an LL.B. from Dalhousie University and a B.B.A. from St. Francis Xavier University, and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1993. He serves as general counsel to Efficiency Nova Scotia and sits on the boards of McInnes Cooper, the Verschuren Centre and the National Gallery of Canada Foundation.
