About James

James (Jim) B. Laycraft, K.C. is a founding lawyer of Wilson Laycraft who has retired from full-time practice but remains connected to the firm. He practiced exclusively in litigation for more than 30 years, with a broad range of matters including administrative law, civil and commercial litigation, municipal law, oil and gas disputes, regulatory hearings, and product liability litigation, and represented clients before tribunals including the Alberta Securities Commission, the Alberta Utilities Commission, and the Alberta Energy Regulator. Jim also acted alongside Gilbert J. Ludwig on a significant number of industrial property tax assessment cases. He earned his BA from the University of Alberta in 1976 and his LLB from the University of Calgary in 1980, was called to the Alberta bar in 1981, and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2008. A lifelong Calgary resident, Jim is active in the local arts community.
