About Garry

Garry Laboucan is a partner at TLE Law who has practiced Aboriginal law for more than two decades, advising First Nations in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, Metis Settlements, and individual Indigenous clients on rights infringements. He has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, the Federal Court, the Indian Claims Commission of Canada, and the Specific Claims Tribunal, and has extensive experience drafting bylaws, policies, constitutions, and election codes for First Nations governance. He has filed, litigated, negotiated, and settled numerous specific claims, including treaty land entitlement claims, and jointly represented five Treaty 8 First Nations in a roughly $350 million agricultural benefits settlement. He also maintains a criminal defence practice focused on Wildlife Act charges based on Treaty and constitutional law, and is currently representing Treaty 6 and Treaty 10 First Nation clients in claims valued at over $1.5 billion.
