Emma Ryman

About Emma

Emma Ryman is an Associate at Torys, practicing from the Toronto office. Her work centers on litigation and dispute resolution, covering civil and commercial matters as well as public and regulatory issues. She has handled contract and tort claims, tribunal hearings, applications for judicial review, and appeals in administrative and constitutional law. Emma has appeared as counsel before several courts and tribunals, among them the Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and Ontario's Divisional and Small Claims Courts. Before coming to Torys, she worked as a litigator with the Department of Justice, and she later clerked for Justice Kasirer at the Supreme Court of Canada and for three judges on Ontario's Court of Appeal. In law school, she was a senior editor with the University of Toronto's law review and served as a caseworker with Downtown Legal Services. She also competed in the Gale Cup Moot, taking second place in the factum competition.
