About Michael
Michael Byers is a litigator whose practice centers on commercial, securities, and complex employment matters. His work includes contract and shareholder disputes, class actions, professional liability and fraud matters, employment litigation, insolvency disputes, and insurance litigation. He has particular experience in securities litigation, including Ontario Securities Commission investigations, investment loss claims, broker-dealer disputes, and cryptocurrency litigation, and he advises departing brokers, advisors, and executives on employment disputes. He has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario as well as bodies including the Capital Markets Tribunal and the Human Rights Tribunal. He joined the firm in 2014 after practicing at a national law firm and became a partner in 2019. In 2025, he received the Lexpert Rising Stars Award, recognizing lawyers 40 and under across Canada.
