About Emily Durand

Emily Durand helps public and private sector employers with the full range of labour and employment issues, from everyday workplace advice through to litigation. Emily is an associate at Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP and works out of the firm's Toronto office.

Emily joined Filion from a role as labour and employment counsel at an Ontario utility company. That in-house background shapes how Emily works with clients today, with a focus on practical, business-minded solutions that fit an employer's operational and strategic needs. Emily was called to the Ontario bar in 2020.

On the privacy side, Emily holds the CIPP/C designation as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (Canada) and is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Emily also writes and presents for the firm, including an October 2025 piece on Johnstone v. Loblaw, where the court refused to let an employee walk away from a settlement over buyer's remorse or a change of heart.

Emily's JD comes from Western University, where the work included a research assistant role with Professor Richard H. McLaren, O.C. That final year of law school also took Emily overseas for a semester at Radboud University in the Netherlands, and before law school Emily earned an honours degree in mathematics and history at the University of Windsor.
