About Duncan Snyder

Founders, start-ups and fast-growing companies turn to Duncan Snyder for the deals that move a business forward, from selling the company or bringing in an investor to drafting a shareholder agreement or an option plan. Duncan is a partner in Gowling WLG's corporate group, working from the firm's Waterloo Region office, and also helps clients with everyday commercial and governance questions.

Mergers and acquisitions sit at the centre of Duncan's work, in fields running from software and technology to manufacturing, aggregates and consumer products. A lot of it crosses the border: Duncan often works with clients and counsel in other jurisdictions, mostly on deals with a U.S. side. Representative matters include the sale of North Inc. (formerly Thalmic Labs) to Google and SSIMWAVE's sale to IMAX.

In 2019 Duncan was on the Gowling WLG team for the selling shareholders of Bluesun Inc., a Burlington company, when iPipeline of Exton, Pennsylvania acquired it, and on the team for Erie Architectural Products Group, headquartered in Lakeshore, Ontario, in its acquisition by YKK AP America.

Duncan earned an economics degree at Wilfrid Laurier University, then studied law at the University of Toronto, and was called to the Ontario bar in 2014. Gowling WLG named Duncan a partner effective January 1, 2022, one of 21 new partners that year, and Best Lawyers has recognized Duncan for Corporate Law since 2027. Home is Waterloo Region, where Duncan coaches, volunteers and takes part as a parent in a number of sports programs.
