About Steven D. E. Matheson

Steve Matheson is a partner at Goad and Goad LLP in Cambridge, Ontario, with a practice centred on business and corporate law and on wills and estates. Over the years Steve has acted for multi-million dollar corporations as well as charities, non-profits, government bodies, businesses and individuals, across a wide range of matters.

Steve's legal career started in 1998 with articles at a small firm in Thunder Bay, and Steve has worked as legal counsel in one form or another ever since. One stretch was spent in-house with a large single-tier municipality. Jim Renick, now a fellow partner, was handling that municipality's outside legal work at the time, and the two became friends who'd long hoped to practise side by side, a chance Goad and Goad finally gave them. Today Steve practises through Steven D. E. Matheson Professional Corporation.

Both main practice areas have personal roots. Steve grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, which is where the pull toward business law comes from. Estates work matters for a different reason: as a child Steve spent lots of time with grandparents, and through the growing-up years worked in a home health care business.

Away from work, Steve enjoys the outdoors, from skiing, hiking and camping to fishing, canoeing and mountain biking, with golf and squash in the mix too. Steve is also a busy parent of several very active kids and gives a great deal of volunteer time coaching hockey or soccer, and on other days is usually watching from an arena, a soccer pitch or the bleachers at a baseball diamond.
