About Duncan

Duncan Macgillivray is a personal injury lawyer in Thunder Bay and the only lawyer in Northwestern Ontario certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. For almost a decade he taught Insurance Law at Lakehead University's Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, where he now teaches Civil Practice, and he writes for the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association blog and has presented at OTLA and Thunder Bay Law Association conferences. He has served on the boards of the Brain Injury Association of Thunder Bay (including as President from 2010 to 2015) and the Thunder Bay Counselling Centre, and he sits on the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association's Board of Directors. His awards include the Northwestern Ontario Visionary Award (Top 20 Under 40, 2012), the City of Thunder Bay Citizen of Exceptional Achievement (2015), and recognition in Best Lawyers in Canada. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2009 after earning his Juris Doctor from Queen's University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Francis Xavier University.
