Johnson is one of four founding partners of Calgary Family Law Associates, admitted to the Alberta Bar in June 2006. Family law is a third career for her, following earlier work running a business in mainland China and as an ophthalmic assistant conducting diabetes research. Her practice covers all aspects of family law and child and family services matters, including parenting arrangements, support, property division, prenuptial and cohabitation agreements, and emergency protection orders. She co-founded the Canadian Bar Association's Child Welfare subsection in Calgary and has volunteered at the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter, the Calgary Women's Centre, and Calgary Legal Guidance.
