About David

David Marshall joined JSS Barristers in 2016 and became a partner in 2024, focusing on complex business disputes both in court and through arbitration, and acting as lead counsel before all levels of court in Alberta. As provincial counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association, he assists physicians with professional negligence claims and other medical-legal issues, and his commercial litigation practice covers oil and gas, shareholder and corporate governance disputes, appeals, and franchise litigation. David has acted as lead counsel before the Court of Appeal of Alberta and has pursued and responded to applications for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. He obtained his JD from the University of Calgary in 2014, earning awards for highest standing in property law and advanced oil and gas law, and previously completed a Diploma in Jazz Performance from Mount Royal University. He was called to the Alberta bar in 2015 and has been recognized as a Benchmark Litigation Future Star and a Best Lawyers Ones to Watch honoree in Appellate Practice and Corporate and Commercial Litigation.
