David Bish is a partner and leads Torys' Corporate Restructuring and Advisory Practice, with a focus on insolvency law. David advises on matters covering liquidations, receiverships, wind-ups, security enforcement actions, restructurings, reorganizations, proposals, and bankruptcy filings, and counsels boards of directors on governance issues in distressed situations. He has deep expertise in cross-border insolvency and restructuring work, both plenary and ancillary, and brings that same experience into commercial financing, private equity work, and M&A transactions. He has built a long record acting as corporate and litigation counsel for accounting firms, distressed investors, financial institutions, and major corporations. David speaks often on insolvency and restructuring topics and has guest lectured at several Canadian law schools. Since 2002, he has lectured for the National Insolvency Examination administered by CAIRP, and he also once taught insolvency law as part of the Bar Admission Course, delivered on behalf of the Law Society of Upper Canada. David wrote a LexisNexis book on Canadian bankruptcy and insolvency law as it applies to commercial tenancies, and has authored numerous articles and contributed to publications including those of the Insolvency Institute of Canada and INSOL International.
