About Darren Blimkie

Darren Blimkie is a litigator whose work centres on health law, professional liability and disciplinary matters, on both the civil and the administrative side. Darren is a partner in Gowling WLG's Advocacy Department and works out of the firm's Ottawa office.

That work takes Darren into Ontario courtrooms at several levels and before administrative tribunals, among them the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. It doesn't always end in a hearing, either: Darren also has experience helping clients through mediations and settlement conferences.

Science came before law. Darren completed a BSc in biopharmaceutical science at the University of Ottawa, and also spent four years in an immunology research lab at the University of British Columbia, where the research produced several peer reviewed papers on designing vaccines, testing them and how well they work. At Queen's University's law school Darren picked up two course awards, and the connection with Gowling WLG started early, with a summer position and then articling at the firm. Darren was called to the Ontario bar in 2015.

Law school wasn't all books. Darren captained the Queen's Law hockey team and held the law school's athletic representative role throughout the program. These days Darren gives time to Law Help Ontario, a pro bono program run by Pro Bono Law Ontario.
