Real Estate LawD. Fraser MacFadyen advises clients on real estate acquisitions, dispositions and financing, commercial leasing, and general commercial matters including business formation and employment. He was one of the lead lawyers on the Sobeys acquisition of Canada Safeway's assets for approximately $5.8 billion and the formation of Crombie REIT, along with its later $430 million acquisition of 61 properties. He also acted on the acquisition of Nova Scotia casinos by Great Canadian Casino Corporation, which involved a specialized tax-saving structure. MacFadyen was the firm's practice group leader for Commercial Real Property from 2008 to 2010. He earned his LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1985 and a B.Comm. from Mount Allison University in 1982, and was named King's Counsel in 2026. He was called to the British Columbia bar in 1986 and the Nova Scotia bar in 1989.
