About Connor McGarry

Whether a client is selling a company for the first time or buying one, Connor McGarry is a Gowling WLG lawyer who can walk them through the deal. Connor is an associate with the firm's Business Law Department in Ottawa. Connor's practice centres on M&A along with general corporate work, and clients range from owners on their first sale or purchase to private equity firms with international reach.

Connor also knows deals from the finance side. Alongside the legal career, there were five years in investment banking at a small mid-market bank. In 2023 Connor was a director at Welch Capital Partners Inc. Connor's legal path runs through the University of Ottawa, which awarded a combined JD/MBA, and a call to the Ontario bar in 2015.

Indigenous business is a thread in Connor's recent writing. Two 2025 pieces, each written with Gowling WLG colleagues, look at how companies should set up partnerships with Indigenous organizations when bidding on government contracts, and at the security a lender can take when financing a business on a First Nation reserve.

Hockey rinks and ball diamonds see a lot of Connor, who coaches minor hockey and t-ball. Connor also co-founded the Travis Price Classic Charity Golf Tournament to honour a friend and still co-chairs it. That mix of professional and community work earned Connor a Forty Under 40 award in 2023 from the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
