About Catherine

Catherine (Cathy) Merrett is one of the original partners of TingleMerrett LLP and has practiced corporate commercial law for more than 20 years. Most of her practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions in the insurance industry and on private equity transactions and structuring in the agri-business sector, acting for large corporations, venture capital funds, banks, and institutional investors. She has set up and organized several private equity funds in Canada and has handled a wide variety of acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, and recapitalizations. Merrett attended the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts before early admission to its Faculty of Law, obtaining her Bachelor of Laws in 1992, and articled and practiced at the Calgary office of a national firm before joining TingleMerrett. She has taught corporate finance and business law courses at the University of Alberta and University of Calgary, and is a past director of the YWCA of Calgary.
