Employers facing a union negotiation, a grievance, a human rights complaint or a wrongful dismissal claim can turn to Cassandra da Costa, a senior associate in the London office of Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti. Cassandra's clients include public and private sector organizations of every size, and the aim is to bring a collaborative, creative approach to the knotty workplace problems they bring in.

Cassandra's U.S. work meant acting for a large American city on its labour and employment files: bargaining with its unions, working through workplace disputes and handling human rights matters. That all came before the Ontario call. Admission to the Washington bar came in 2014, Missouri followed in 2016 and Ontario in 2019. Ahead of joining Filion as an associate in January 2020, Cassandra worked at a London firm devoted to management-side labour and employment law.

That city work left Cassandra with a real feel for the politics, culture and socio-economic pressures local governments deal with. It's also why the workplace issues that come up with police services and utilities, and with the unions representing public sector staff, are familiar ground. And because Cassandra has practised in more than one jurisdiction, U.S. employers trying to find their way through Canada's workplace rules get someone who knows both sides of that line.
