About Barry

Barry Weintraub is a founding partner of Weintraub Huang LLP. He earned a B.A. (1984) and an LL.B. (1987) from the University of Toronto, after earlier studies at the University of Lethbridge between 1980 and 1982. His practice spans civil, corporate and commercial, environmental, and employment litigation and arbitration, and he has appeared in more than 1,500 proceedings across trial and appellate courts, administrative tribunals, and commercial arbitrations. He has chaired both the Civil Litigation Section and the Environmental Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association, as well as the Canadian Bar Association's National Environment, Energy and Resources Law Section, and for many years served as an adjunct law professor teaching civil litigation at the University of Toronto and Queen's University. Rankings publications including Benchmark Canada, Best Lawyers in Canada, and Lexpert have recognized him as a leading Canadian lawyer. His commercial litigation experience includes corporate transaction disputes, shareholder remedies, contract claims, banking and investment matters, injunctions, regulatory proceedings, construction disputes, professional negligence, estates and trusts, defamation, real estate litigation, and fraud, often on large matters requiring coordination among litigation teams. On the environmental side, he has handled civil claims over historical contamination, appeals of regulatory orders, and defence of environmental prosecutions for corporate, insurance, financial, and individual clients. He also investigates workplace fraud, discrimination, and harassment complaints, maintains an employment law practice covering wrongful dismissal, restrictive covenants, and human rights matters, and represented the successful complainant in Tahmourpour v RCMP before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal and the Federal Court of Appeal.
