About Anne Marie Heenan

Anne Marie Heenan gives organizations in the private and public sectors, across many different industries, practical advice on a wide range of workplace matters. As a senior associate at Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP, Anne Marie focuses on accommodation and human rights, collective agreement interpretation, employment contracts and terminations, and legislative compliance.

Filion is where Anne Marie's career started, first as an articling student and then, after the 2014 call to the Ontario bar, as an associate. Anne Marie later broadened that experience at another labour and employment firm, and was a founding member of Rae Christen Jeffries LLP, becoming a partner there in 2021. As that firm's Director of Legal Research and Writing, Anne Marie trained and mentored its students and associates and built out its knowledge management strategy. In October 2025 Anne Marie came back to Filion as a senior associate.

Written advocacy, research and analysis sat at the centre of Anne Marie's practice at Rae Christen Jeffries. Canadian Lawyer quoted Anne Marie in late 2020 on the employment law challenges the pandemic was creating for employers and employees, from constructive dismissal to working from home, and again in 2022 on the narrow cases where a fired employee can claim aggravated or moral damages because of how the dismissal was handled.

Law school at Queen's brought the David Sabbath Prize in Contracts, a spot tutoring fellow students in the faculty's Academic Assistance Program and research assistant work on international criminal law. Before that, Anne Marie earned an honours degree in English and political science at the University of Toronto.
