About Andrew

Andrew M. Fortis is a founding partner of Hummingbird Lawyers LLP, where he leads the firm's Real Estate and Business Law groups. He earned a BA in political science from York University before completing his JD at Michigan State University's Law School in 1999 and being called to the New York State Bar that same year. He returned to Canada, spent time on Bay Street, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002 while building what became Hummingbird Lawyers. Andrew later completed an LLM in real estate at Osgoode Hall Law School and was designated a Certified Specialist in Real Estate Law by the Law Society of Ontario in 2016. His practice covers residential and commercial acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and financing, complex private financings, subdivision and condominium development deals, and title rectification matters involving easements and adverse possession claims. He also provides expert opinions on solicitor negligence and handles applications for Absolute and Possessory Title, and he has served in various roles, including Chair, on the Ontario Bar Association's Real Property Executive.
