Andrew is a partner at Torys focusing on patent and commercial disputes as well as appellate matters at every level of court. His intellectual property work spans patents, copyright and trademark disputes, often in the life sciences, technology and media sectors. He also maintains a commercial litigation practice covering class actions, licensing and contract claims, and regularly advises media clients on defamation and free expression matters. He has represented both government and private-sector clients, appearing in administrative hearings, judicial reviews, and cases involving constitutional law. He has argued numerous appeals before Ontario's and federal appellate courts, plus several cases at the Supreme Court of Canada. He co-chairs and founded the Advocates Society's Appellate Practice Group, previously chaired the Canadian Bar Association's intellectual property section, and once clerked for Chief Justice Lamer at the Supreme Court before earning an LLM in intellectual property law at UC Berkeley.
