Alain Bartleman

About Alain

Alain Bartleman is a partner in the firm's Indigenous Practice Department and a member of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. He advises First Nations across Canada in complex negotiations involving Indigenous and Treaty rights, governance, and major resource and infrastructure projects, including impact and benefit agreements, revenue sharing, and economic development matters. His work also covers land management, project approvals, on-reserve real-property development, and the governance of band-owned enterprises. Alain has served as Treasurer of the Indigenous Bar Association, Special Advisor on Indigenous Issues to the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, and a board member of Native Child and Family Services of Toronto, and currently sits as a Director of the Canadian Aboriginal Minerals Association. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2017 and holds an LL.B and B.C.L. from McGill University. He received the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his contributions to the profession and Indigenous communities.
