Virtual appointmentsStringer LLP is a Toronto specialty law firm that works only for employers. It was founded in 1966 by Edwin L. "Ted" Stringer and spent years operating as Stringer Brisbin Humphrey before the partners settled on its current name. That history makes it one of the longer running specialist labour and employment firms in Canada, and under Ted Stringer's leadership the firm became one of the first in the country to focus on the exclusive representation of employers.
The firm's lawyers work as a single team rather than assigning files by seniority, so a client dealing with one lawyer is meant to be able to draw on the whole group. Its work covers wrongful dismissal defence, human rights, occupational health and safety, workers' compensation, employment standards, pay equity and union avoidance, along with corporate immigration for employers moving staff across borders. Stringer LLP represents employers of many sizes, from local businesses to multinational and public sector organizations, in sectors including healthcare, construction, financial services, manufacturing and municipal government. It's also a member of the Worklaw Network, a group of independently owned management side labour and employment firms in the United States and other countries that it draws on for cross border employment matters.

Stringer LLP's office is in the Cadillac Fairview Tower at 20 Queen Street West, a 36 storey office building that opened in 1981 as part of the Toronto Eaton Centre complex. The tower's curved, mirrored glass front is a familiar sight from Nathan Phillips Square just to the west, and it sits at one of the busiest corners in downtown Toronto, with the shopping centre wrapped around its base.
Stringer LLP's clients are employers from across Ontario and beyond rather than local walk in traffic, so a downtown Toronto address matters less for neighbourhood visibility and more as an easy, central meeting point for HR teams and in house counsel coming in from other parts of the city or the region.
