About Chappell Partners LLP

Chappell Partners LLP is a small, full-service law firm in downtown Toronto, founded in 1949 by Hyliard (Hyl) Chappell. Chappell graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1943 and worked at the firm of Fred Gardiner, later the first chairman of Metropolitan Toronto, before starting a solo practice. Chappell later served as the Liberal Member of Parliament for Peel South from 1968 to 1972. The firm later practised for years as Chappell, Bushell and Stewart LLP, a name that carried forward June Bushell, one of its longtime partners, before it became Chappell Partners LLP.

The firm organizes its work around four groups: business law, family law, litigation, and real estate. On the business side it handles incorporations, commercial agreements, and business acquisitions and sales. Its family law group covers marriage and separation, child protection, and Hague Convention child abduction matters, and also offers collaborative family law as an alternative to court. The litigation group has argued cases at every level of court in Ontario up to the Supreme Court of Canada, and also acts in expropriation matters. Real estate work spans residential and commercial transactions, land development, and condominium law. The firm's office is at 1 University Avenue, Suite 1601, near Union Station.
