About Sumaiya

Sumaiya Akhter is an associate at Gluckstein Lawyers who handles complex class action files involving privacy and consumer protection law. She began her legal studies at Karl Franzens University in Graz, Austria, where she interned at the Criminal Court, before moving to Canada in 2019 to attend law school at the University of New Brunswick. She graduated with her JD in 2021 and served as a graduate research assistant for the faculty of law along the way. Sumaiya articled with the federal Department of Justice at the Office of the Attorney General in Fredericton, building litigation experience in labour, employment, contract, and constitutional law. She is a member of the South Asian Bar Association and volunteers with a refugee sponsorship organization. She's fluent in German, English, Bangla, Hindi, and French.
