About Saul
Saul B. Simmonds is the founder of Simmonds and Associates, having established the firm in 2021 after decades in criminal defence practice. He earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba in 1980, following a Bachelor of Arts from the same university in 1977, and was formerly a founding partner of Gindin Wolson Simmonds Roitenberg and a partner at Walsh Micay and Company. His practice concentrates on complex criminal matters including drug prosecutions and Charter challenges, with cases at all levels of court up to the Supreme Court of Canada. He has published and lectured on topics such as DNA evidence, impaired driving, and Charter remedies, and successfully appealed a 1984 murder conviction in 2017 by challenging the DNA evidence used at trial. Saul is a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers and a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and Best Lawyers has recognized him since 2006, twice naming him Lawyer of the Year. He is a former triathlete who has completed the Ironman Canada competition twice.
