About Jade

Jade DeFehr is a criminal defence lawyer at Simmonds and Associates whose practice is informed by harm reduction and transformative justice principles. She holds a Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Civil Law from the McGill Faculty of Law, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Women's and Gender Studies and English from the University of Winnipeg. She completed her articles with Legal Aid Manitoba at the Phoenix Community Law Centre, and previously worked as a summer student at West Coast Environmental Law in Vancouver and the CIPPIC clinic at the University of Ottawa. Jade has been involved in student advocacy, including as Vice-President Student Affairs for the University of Winnipeg Students' Association, and with groups such as the Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition. She is a member of the Law Society of Manitoba and the Canadian Prison Law Association and accepts Legal Aid certificates as part of her practice.
