Robert Kugler litigates civil and commercial matters, including class actions, personal injuries, defective product claims, shareholder disputes, medical malpractice and banking and insurance matters, for individuals and companies. He has obtained a series of landmark results, including a judgment condemning a religious order to pay $20 million to more than 100 survivors of sexual abuse, and has represented thousands of individuals who received compensation from other religious institutions. He represented hundreds of thousands of First Nations children and families in a class action against the Attorney General of Canada that resulted in a settlement exceeding $23 billion, the largest in Canadian history, and has represented tens of thousands of Quebecers in class actions over pre-trial detention rights, obtaining judgments totalling roughly $189 million. Kugler has also obtained the largest-ever award against a ski hill for a child's brain injury and led a multi-million-dollar settlement for victims of the Earl Jones Ponzi scheme. He frequently works on a contingency-fee basis, and Best Lawyers has recognized him among the best lawyers in Canada.
