About Robert
Just before joining Ryder Wright, Robert retired from his role as Canadian Counsel to the United Steelworkers, a position he held after joining the union's Legal Department in 1992. Earlier in his career he worked as an associate at a downtown Toronto firm practicing civil litigation and labour law. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1990 and has spent more than three decades as a union-side labour lawyer. As Canadian Counsel, he acted as the union's general counsel in Canada and headed the Legal Department at its national office, overseeing much of the union's legal work and advising officers and staff nationwide. He has extensive experience appearing before grievance arbitration panels, the Grievance Settlement Board, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, provincial labour relations boards, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and other tribunals, as well as all levels of court in Ontario.
