About Richard

Richard Whissell is a partner and trademark agent at Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall, having previously worked at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and an Ottawa intellectual property firm. His practice covers trademark applications, prosecutions, registrability opinions and risk assessments, and he has represented clients before the Canadian Trademarks Opposition Board during opposition proceedings and oral hearings. Whissell served on the Board of the Trademark Agent Qualifying Examination for the 2019 and 2020 exams and was Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Courses Committee for the McGill University and Intellectual Property Institute of Canada program from 2021 to 2025. He is also a member of the Subject Matter Expert Panel for the College of Patent and Trademark Agents and is fully bilingual, practising in both English and French.
