About Richard
Richard Litkowski began his career as a law clerk to Chief Justice Antonio Lamer of the Supreme Court of Canada in 1989-1990 before being called to the bar in 1991. Early on he worked alongside leading criminal lawyers including Alan Gold, Michelle Fuerst, Clayton Ruby, and Marlys Edwardh on a wide-ranging trial and appeal practice. His work now focuses on appeals before the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, and he has argued hundreds of appeals, including successful outcomes in lengthy and complex murder cases, with more than 200 reported decisions to his name. He was a founding member of the Pro Bono Inmate Appeal Program and has represented unrepresented inmates before the Court of Appeal in Toronto and Kingston for 25 years, and has served as Amicus Curiae in several Superior Court cases. He taught Evidence and Advanced Evidence at Osgoode Hall Law School and was an instructor at the Bar Admission Course from 1993 to 2005.
