About Mitchell
Mitchell Huberman is a partner at Smith Litkowski who defends clients facing charges ranging from mischief to murder, including robbery, sexual assault, drug trafficking, domestic assault and firearms offences, and has acted as counsel in numerous judge-alone and jury trials. He leads the firm's prison law department, conducting parole hearings each year and helping clients serving life sentences prepare faint hope applications for judicial review of their parole ineligibility. In 2021 he brought a constitutional challenge to Canada's parole and statutory release regime, prompting the Parole Board of Canada to change its policy to provide more timely post-suspension hearings. Huberman earned his JD at Dalhousie University's Schulich School of Law, where he worked with the Seventh Step Society of Nova Scotia and helped draft a criminal procedure textbook, and was called to the Ontario bar in 2018.
