Richard's tax practice centres on the taxation of corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance for both public and private corporations. He also advises individuals and private enterprises on estate planning and on passing an operating business to the next generation, and he has worked with private equity and venture capital groups throughout his career. He additionally advises donors, artists, and museums on donations of cultural property, and has written a book chapter on the Canadian tax treatment of such donations. Richard has lectured for the Canadian Bar Association's Tax Law for Lawyers Program since it began and serves as a contributing editor to International Tax, published by CCH. He holds an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School and a B.A. from the University of British Columbia.
