About Philippa
Philippa G. Samworth is a senior partner at Dutton Brock practising insurance defence, particularly accident benefits work, and also offering mediation and arbitration services. She was retained by Ontario's Ministry of Finance to advise on the drafting of new automobile insurance legislation and later chaired the Minister's Committee for Designated Assessment Centres. She received her BA and LLB from Queen's University and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1979, and in 1990 she was certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. Philippa was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2007 and the Canadian Academy of Distinguished Neutrals in 2020, and she has received the Advocates' Society Medal along with other honours in insurance and personal injury law. She is a past president of the Advocates' Society and the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto, and a founding member of the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association.
