About Philip
Philip Abbink practices professional regulation and labour law, primarily advocating for health care professionals in grievance arbitrations and before professional Colleges, and he also represents employees in investigations, quasi-criminal proceedings, and Coroners' Inquests. He is Co-managing Partner at Cavalluzzo and holds a JD and an MA in International Relations from the University of Toronto. He has represented the surviving siblings of Jeffrey Baldwin in the inquest into his death, which led to changes in Ontario's child protection system. He became a partner in 2017 and has since focused much of his practice on representing nurses in labour arbitration and regulatory proceedings, including cases requiring hospitals to align workplace policies with human rights law. Philip has also acted pro bono for complainants in the disciplinary hearing arising from the kettling of G20 protesters in Toronto, and he obtained rulings requiring long-term care homes to comply with pandemic-era health and safety directives.
