Peter A. Aziz is senior counsel at Torys LLP and co-heads the firm's payments and cards practice within its Financial Institutions Regulatory Group. His practice covers regulatory compliance in financial services and payments, including mobile and emerging payment technologies. Aziz has deep experience with credit, debit and prepaid card arrangements, including co-brand and affinity programs, and understands the operating rules of major card networks. He also advises on anti-money laundering, anti-terrorist financing and economic sanctions law, counseling banks, insurers, securities dealers, investment advisers and fintechs on FINTRAC obligations. In consumer protection, Aziz advises financial institutions and retailers on federal and provincial requirements. He also handles corporate reorganizations for private companies, including holding companies tied to the Thomson and Rogers families, and belongs to the Canadian Tax Foundation.
