About Craig
Craig Empson's practice encompasses Indigenous laws, governance, treaty implementation, lands, natural resources, commercial transactions, and corporate structures, with specific areas including consultation and accommodation, First Nation constitutions, impact benefit agreements, land codes, and treaty negotiation. He shares ancestral roots with the Cree and Métis of Treaty 8 territory in Northern Alberta and is originally from Kitimat, BC. Before joining Woodward & Company in 2024, he clerked at the Federal Court of Canada and worked as an environmental consultant on environmental site assessments and spill remediation projects. He earned a Bachelor of Science in environmental science from the University of British Columbia (2008) and a JD from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC (2017), receiving the Indigenous Law Students Award (2017) and a Blakes Scholar award (2015), and was called to the Law Society of British Columbia in 2019. Outside work, he is a longtime guitarist, hockey player, and outdoors enthusiast.
