Insurance Law
Civil Litigation & Dispute ResolutionPatrick Bruce is a partner in the firm's insurance group, with a practice built mainly around insurance defence, coverage disputes, and alternative dispute resolution. He handles technically complex personal injury, casualty, and liability claims, acting for major global insurers and their insureds across a range of industries, including subrogated matters, property damage, and construction disputes. He also has experience applying provincial and federal privacy laws, particularly around data breaches and reporting obligations to privacy commissioners. His approach is to first understand a client's goals before recommending how to resolve a claim efficiently. He has tried cases at every level of court in British Columbia, from Provincial Court through the Court of Appeal, and has mediated numerous claims, including complicated multi-party disputes. Before joining the firm, he spent a law school summer working at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. He belongs to the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Vancouver Bar Association, and spends his free time negotiating with his kids and playing hockey.
