About Matthew

Matthew Newell is a partner in the Halifax office whose practice covers real estate and commercial transactions. He represents purchasers, vendors, tenants and landlords in property matters, and advises on mortgage financings and the acquisition or sale of shares and assets. His work has included Sobeys' acquisition of Canada Safeway's assets for approximately $5.8 billion and a sale leaseback transaction between Sobeys and Crombie REIT involving roughly $990 million in proceeds. He earned his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 2008 and a B.Sc. (honours) from Dalhousie University in 2004, and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 2009.
